Ontario Place Revitalization

Ontario Place Revitalization

"Opened in 1971, Ontario Place was one of the first public spaces established along Toronto's waterfront, which at that time was largely industrial and inaccessible. It remained a popular destination until recent years, when in 2012 it was closed amid dwindling attendance, and an advisory panel headed by John Tory was appointed to provide recommendations for the revitalization of the site."

                                                                                                                                              Mirabelli, Julian.(urbantoronto.ca)

Revitalizing Ontario Place project is an abstract conceptual transformation of this iconic site located in Toronto, Ontario into an innovative provincial landmark that is a destination for explorer soles and creative minds. This centre targets both the local community and tourist travellers who opt to enjoy a wide variety of exhilarating indoor activities in Toronto’s volatile weather such as a butterfly conservatory, world's first permanent I-MAX movie theatre (Cinesphere), Ferris wheel, gallery/exhibition space, restaurant/cafe, research/learning facilities and creative workshops for young innovators and entrepreneurs who are eager to change the world with their creativity. The project focuses on three concepts of exploration, playfulness and creativity.

Statement Of Intent

The story of old vs new

When Imagination craves to create, it’s time to play. It’s about exploring, learning and creating. Being alive and playful and feel in harmony with nature. When the light shines through the window of imagination but it’s brighter, because there is excitement in playing that drives love and passion to imagine something new. It’s where the usual patterns fade away and imagination thrills to create an image so powerful and tenacious that prompt change. In a sense, it’s the cycle that is necessary for our evolution. Explore, be playful and create. These three words are the guidelines that inspired me to re-imagine Ontario Place as a creativity centre for young curious minds and a place that attracts tourist from all over the world.
